A slow laptop does not always need new parts
Save your work and restart. Review free storage and which apps are running. Windows has built-in storage and performance tools; avoid installing unfamiliar “PC cleaner” software. Check what any cleanup tool will remove before accepting it and keep a separate backup of important files.
An SSD can help a compatible laptop that still uses a mechanical hard drive, while more RAM can help particular workloads. Neither is a universal fix for every slowdown. Send your exact model and describe what feels slow: starting up, opening apps, browsing or a particular task.

Running out of storage
Check what is taking up space before buying a larger drive. Review files and apps you no longer need, and verify a backup before deleting anything. A cloud sync folder is not automatically a complete backup of your computer.
If you need more room, I check the supported drive type, physical size and capacity before ordering. Some laptops have soldered storage or RAM and cannot receive the advertised upgrades. MacBook compatibility is checked by exact model and year; it is never assumed.
SSD fitting or fitting with cloning?
£59 labour plus SSD: compatible drive fitting and testing. This does not include transferring your files or installing an operating system. A new blank system drive will need a separately agreed operating-system setup before it can replace a working installation.
£89 total labour plus SSD: fitting and straightforward cloning from a healthy, compatible source drive, with up to two hours on site. It is not £59 plus £89. Larger or more complex transfers need a separate quote.
Cloning depends on drive health, used space, encryption and software compatibility. It is not failing-drive recovery and does not replace a separate backup. I agree exactly what will be copied and tested before work starts.
Encryption and important files
Before a drive upgrade, check you can access your backup and any BitLocker or other recovery key. A hardware change can lead to an encryption recovery prompt. Keep keys private and available for you to enter; do not send them in an enquiry.
If files are disappearing, the drive is making unusual noises or the computer cannot read it, stop repeated attempts and discuss specialist data recovery before an ordinary upgrade. Do not initialise, format or reset a drive containing data you need.

Battery, RAM and screen repairs
Supported RAM fitting is £49 labour, or £20 when fitted during the same SSD job, plus the RAM. Laptop battery replacement is £49 labour plus the part; a standard screen-panel replacement is £69 labour plus the panel.
The exact model matters. Touchscreens, bonded assemblies, damaged hinges and other complex repairs may need a different quote or specialist. A screen symptom alone does not prove that a panel is faulty.
If the casing or trackpad is lifting, or the battery is unusually hot or damaged, stop using and charging the laptop and seek advice before booking. Do not press it flat or puncture the battery.
