iPhone touchscreen not responding

Safe checks for frozen, intermittent or inaccurate iPhone touch input.

See safe first checks

What the symptoms may tell you

A frozen app, damp screen, interfering case or protector, damaged display and internal fault can look similar. Tell me whether all or only part of the screen is affected.

Safe checks to try first

  1. 1Dry the screen and your hands, disconnect accessories, and remove a case or protector if safe.
  2. 2Restart the phone using the controls for your model, then test the lock screen and more than one app.
  3. 3Back up important data while touch still works, especially if the fault is getting worse.

What to avoid

Do not press hard on cracked glass or keep entering a passcode when the screen is making unwanted touches.

Next step

Send the exact model, a short video if possible, and whether the fault followed a drop, liquid or prior repair.

What I can help with

A screen repair can be quoted after checks; it is not guaranteed to solve a board-level touch fault.
