Damaged iPhone charging port

What a loose, bent or unreliable iPhone charging connector may mean.

See safe first checks

What the symptoms may tell you

A loose cable can be caused by the plug, debris, connector wear or physical damage. The symptom does not establish that the port itself needs replacement.

Safe checks to try first

  1. 1Try a second undamaged cable of the correct type without forcing it.
  2. 2Check whether the plug is fully seated and whether charging changes with a different power source.
  3. 3Note whether the phone also has microphone, speaker or data-connection problems.

What to avoid

Do not scrape the connector with a pin, spray cleaner into it or keep wiggling a cable to make it charge.

Next step

Send the model and describe whether the cable falls out, charges intermittently or never connects.

What I can help with

Charging-port replacement is considered where the exact model, part and testing allow. Board-level charging repair is excluded.
