Console HDMI port or no display

Check display settings, cable and TV input before diagnosing a damaged HDMI socket.

See safe first checks

What the symptoms may tell you

No signal can come from the TV input, cable, display mode or console. Bent pins, a loose connector or no picture on several displays raises concern about the port.

Safe checks to try first

  1. 1Try another known-working HDMI cable and the correct TV input.
  2. 2Test a second display if available and note whether the console powers on normally.
  3. 3Look at the HDMI socket with a light without inserting tools or forcing a plug.

What to avoid

Do not keep moving a loose connector to regain a picture; this can worsen damage. Do not attempt port soldering without specialist equipment.

Next step

Send the console model, photos of the port and results with another cable or display.
